My online experience for my first hybrid session went surprising good. Getting on was easy for me and listening and chatting wasn’t so bad for an inexperience computer person. The best part of the session was that I could be at home and still be a part of the class. Seeing the professor and interacting with classmates that I never seen me before was cool. I would have liked the whole class to be like the hybrid session. I felt like I took something away from the session and could get used to hybrid sessions in the further. This hybrid session also gave me an insight to how independent classroom might run. Teaching an online college level class can be something I can consider to do all from my home. One of the cool features of hybrid was the buttons we could click to show we agree, need help, or raise your hand.
The fact that the teacher or other students can control your computer was a little scary but I thought all the presentations and awards where great and to see them over the session was amazing to me. Once I get a little more practice on how to work with documents with other the sky is the limit for me and my further students. The only problem I had with the online session was the news letter assignment with the group members. The time spent I tried to commutate and decide on roles to take on but got no response, I think it would have been easier to fix the problem if I had been in contact with the other group members. I can see what they were doing on the screen but it seems like the pictures I sent to them they didn’t want to use or could not open the pictures.
Overall, this was a new experience for me and I think I did well with the session. I could get used to sessions being like this. I was engaged throughout the session and I feel that students will be engaged as well and that student benefit from doing and trying things out hands on just like we did online.
Most of the pictures I could not open it was hard for me to do the newsletter when the other group members could open it because then this prevented me from typing things when people were looking at it. It was fun to try and compose with other people online though. I think this would be very good for high school or college students to use to collaborate on projects together for their classes.
ReplyDeleteIt was an interesting experience. The thing that I found hard to deal with was the lack of knowledge on how this sytem worked. I tried to take over but could not or the person protested when I did so. Then the computer started freaking out so I didn't want to disconnect so I stoppped. I did see that a newsletter template was picked in the beginning. She was trying to get rid of the formatting in the template which created 6 pages. So I did have her pick out a different template and start over which is why it looked like their was not a lot of work completed. If we had more time we could have worked through the kinks. It was a good experience over all.
ReplyDeleteI agree with you last weeks hybrid class was challenging as well as a good learning experience. The group did have a lot of interesting information; however, it was difficult trying to input the data. I also think that our home computers required us to save files in a different format (rtf) than the school computers; so that could have been why those at school had a hard time uploading the information you sent over. I think if we had a little more time to work on the project we could have gotten it figured out. I think hybrid class is a good way to teach students. I question if the budget deficits and teachers layoffs will result in more schools offering these types of courses.
ReplyDeleteVernica, It was nice to have you in class. I had the same problem with pictures at first. I had found all these pictures, but my teammates couldn't see them and I did not know how to get then to them. Fortunately, one of my teammates was in the computer lab with me and we were able to communicate about how to get the pictures and finally she was able to get them. I would not have been able to do this assignment at home but I am glad it went well for you.
ReplyDeleteVernica,
ReplyDeleteIt seems that both you and I had the same problems with sending pictures to our partners when working on the newsletter. At first I became extremely frustrated, and because I could not communicate in person with them, this only fueled my frustration. I started to chat with Prof. Tadeja and told him of my problems and he said as long as I tried, this was all that mattered to him. The key to this hybrid class was collaboration, once I found that out I began to Google every image that pertained to our subject. Since I could not sent it directly I copied and pasted it to the chat option and sent it to everyone in my group. I kept finding out misc. facts about our subject and kept forwarding it to my partners. In the history of the chat window, everyone could see my effort in trying to collaborate with them as best as I could possibly do considering my computer problems. I enjoyed working from the comfort of my own home as well, it makes my life much easier because I didn't have to look for a babysitter. However, when I started having these difficulties I only wanted to be in the classroom and get assistance with these issues by my classmates.
This post is surely informative. Thanks for posting this. Critical thinking will surely take place.
